Razvan Mazilu is the complete artist who has established contemporary
dance and theatre-dance as essential forms of expression in Romania.
Constantly challenging audiences to alternative theatrical and choreographic
experiences, Razvan Mazilu courageously attempts to raise the standards
of performing arts in Romania to an international level.
He started his career, while still a student of ballet and choreography,
as a director. Later on, after becoming nationally acclaimed as a dancer,
Mazilu changed the perceptions of Romanian audiences and art critics.
He was the first director of a dance-theatre show in Romania, with ‘La
Dame aux Camellias’ starring the internationally famous actress Maia
Morgenstern.
He is the first Romanian ballet dancer who played a one-man dance show,
impersonating four major Shakespearean characters in a one-hour performance.
He is the first Romanian choreographer who has brought dance into a
drama theatre - ODEON Theatre from Bucharest, on a regular basis, in
a successful attempt to demonstrate that theatre and dance merge successfully
on stage.
From contemporary ballet to dance-theatre, from cabaret and musical
to choreographic theatre, from tango to classics, acting as a dancer,
choreographer, director or scriptwriter, Razvan Mazilu feels just as
comfortable, while remaining faithful to his nature: that of a genuine
artist.
And the story goes on…beyond bounds…
